creating a high pressure system in florida?
ok, so im doing a final presentation for my tech/engineering class,
the subject is how to better protect new orleans from a hurricane then the levy system
I want to get a jump start on this, so i have already considered this, and i want to know what people think about it, and if they ahve any ideas about how to make parts of it work
-Ok, so I was thinking about this from a show on the history channel, and what if we could put up a station in southern florida that causes a constant high pressure system when a hurricane shows up, or just during the hurricane season. It would act as a buffer for hurricanes and cause then to go back to the atlantic.
To accomidate a lack of rain, we could release silver iodine into the air, which would cause water particles to clump, and to fall - rain
any ideas? bad? good?
how can we create a artificial high pressure system? Is it even possible?

The first thing that springs to mind both literally and figuratively is the law of unintended consequences. Let's just say you could geo-engineer a High Pressure Zone over Florida. You would have to make the system significantly large enough to ensure that the hurricane doesn't go south of Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico where it could curve north and perhaps northeast back towards Florida or go due west into Mexico.
Then next issue is what would that circulation due in the midatlantic region? Remember, for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Could that high intensify lows elsewhere? Could it change the climatic pattern adjacent to it?
Would it thus impact the eco-systems. Yeah the idea would be great but there is too much we don't know and like 'they' say, you don't fool with mother nature.
Perhaps creating a sheer zone over the top of the areas of disturbed weather would be a better alternative.
