grow light vs fluorescent
How can I figure out how much electricity for three or four fluorescent light fixtures is going to cost?
I want to grow my own plants in late winter for our Vegetable/herb garden next year. I know I need lights but my mom seems to think that it might be expensive to run three or four standard 4ft. fixtures 12-16 hours a day for 8-10 weeks.
We live in New York, West of the capital (in that area though). I'm not sure what the price is per kilowatt of electricity, but I would like to find out how much it will cost to grow our own plants vs. buying them.
Check the wattage on the bulbs, multiply that by the hours, then divide by 1000 to get the kWH, or kilowatt-hours. This is the unit of measure that the power company uses. Check your latest electric bill to find out the cost per kWH, then multiply that by the total kWH to find the cost. Good luck.
