Why have we not been back to the moon? - please read below?
Those who think the moon landings were faked often, because of their ignorance, put forward the fact that we haven’t been back in over 30 years. Well, here basically is why.
The two essential ingredients for getting to the moon were:
a)the need to have a booster rocket big enough to take the heavy payload of men and their life-supports to land on the moon.
b)The need for a light-weight lander to be able to get down from lunar orbit and get back up again
These requirements were satisfied at the cost of billions plus years and years of development by the best scientists, engineers and technicians in the world. The giant Saturn V rocket and the LEM, the moon lander, were no longer required after the Apollo missions were scrapped. So, that is why they are unable to go back to the moon. The transport is not available. It would have to be re-developed.
Moon landing deniers – please grow up. Read about it. Opinion without knowledge is the height of stupidity.
I talked with Sean O'Keef when he was the NASA Administrator. His comment on the subject was that there was no motivation for subsequent landings on the Moon. That is, the costs to do so far outweighed any perceived benefits.
Now, with the Mars Program kicking into high gear, there is motivation. The Moon (with its 1/6 Earth gravity) is a great place from which to launch the Mars landing probes. Further, they now think the Moon has water; so it can be used to create hydogen for rocket fuel. So, Moon landings and building a station from which Mars shots can be launched are now on the docket.
