Growing Grapes in Southern California?
I used large pots to plant two grave vine plants I bought at Home Depot in November on my patio here in Southern California. The leaves of the plants have been turning brown w/ spots, drying up, and falling off. How do I tell the difference between normal leaf fall as a result of the seasonal light change and a real problem with the plant, like a fungus or disease?
grape plants have a life cycle in which the leaves die and fall off. you really need to look up your specific variety of grape plant to find out about rhe seasonal cycles of your plant. you also may need to add nutrients in the soil, your plant may be starving. grape plants are meant to be put in the ground...unless there is a "patio" variety that I am unaware of. I have grapes in my back yard. Sunset puts out some great books on plants. A fungus is usually black and moldy looking
my great grandfather raised grapes and i never saw any in pots except for the young seedling type plants
