grow light basics

How old must a foal be to start groundwork??
I have a 7mth old filly, Clyde X TB and she is growing quite quickly... will mat 17hh. When is a safe to start light groundwork training? Lunging, Flexing etc.. My trainer says he will start her straight away with basics but is it too soon? Any ideas?
As long as you're not over exerting her, stressing her, or causing her to develop fears, I don't see why you can't start now. Babies pick up the basics easier, which makes later work so much easier, especially if she's developing a good, healthy trust of humans now. I got my girl when she was 9 months old and she was very, very fearful of humans from not having contact her entire life, and by the time she was 2, I could do anything I wanted to her. I could pop paper bags by her and she wouldn't flinch. The first time a saddle hit her back she didn't even shift her weight, there wasn't a single hesitation in her mind that anything I did could cause harm.
Just keep track of the training and make sure your baby isn't getting worn out or developing any bad habits that'll be harder to break later in life. Its just like a human baby, they make all those baby einstein videos now, and all sorts of learning toys, why not apply it to animals.
