What makes mold grow on aquarium filter? Too much light or too little?

I recently hooked up my aquarium light to a timer so it goes on at 7 am and off at 7 pm. I used to turn it off and on at 8 am and 6 pm. I noticed there's white furry looking mold growing on the top of my filter where the water doesn't touch. Should I be able to just wipe it off with a paper towel or is it going to reappear? it's a ten gallon tank if that matters. Thanks!

Those are mineral deposits, not mold. Just like hard water stains in a shower, sink, or any other area exposed to water containing minerals, aquarium equipment and glass can get buildup of minerals as the water splashes and evaporates (the dissolved minerals are left behind). All you have to do is wipe it off with a paper towel.

Floating radio power usage?

I am building a floating radio to take on a float trip. I do not know much about power usage. I was going to use a car or deep well battery for power. I was wanting to run (4)-6X9 speakers, a amp, a 10" sub, and possibly some LED lights that would beat with the music that could be shut off during the day. Is this to much drain on the battery? The float lasts all day and I was concerned about draining the battery before the trip was over. I was told by the local Marine shop that once I start adding amps andor subs the power would drain much quicker. Any suggestions on stereo, speaker, sub, amp, size or the number of things I could run would be appreciated.

yeah, it comes down to the amps. The lights won't help either.

A deep cycle battery will commonly have a reserve capacity of 100-120 minutes. That means it can deliver 25A for about 2 hrs while maintaining a voltage of no less than 10.5v.

A semi-powerful amp for a system like you're describing, say 400w rms - is going to pull something around 18-20A at full volume.
So realistically, even with a GOOD deep cycle battery you're looking at 2-2.5 hrs. If you're not going to blast it that often you might get quite a bit more time out of it. Obviously a smaller amp will increase your use time as well.

what is the cheapest way to make a Led Grow Light. ?

i konw you have to have a 660nm wavelength of the red spectrum, but where do you get the right leds to make that. every led grow light i find is about 300 and the cheap ones i see have bad reviews. i want a grow light but i dont want to have high wattage or spend a dick ton of money. and dont ask me what im growing. hehe

if its weed your growing.....jokes...hum you might need to go with an actual light bulb not an LED. in my experience LED's are only good for small projects and informing you that your computer is turned on, not lighting rooms. although you can buy LED bulbs they aren't really that great of an investment. You should go to a home depot and ask someone what light fixture and bulb you should use. Hope i helped.
